Momenti di gioia sperimentati durante l’Assemblea di Studio

L’Assemblea pre-capitolare, programmata dal 16 al 21 maggio, è stata una bellissima esperienza preceduta da una ricchissima settimana di Esercizi spirituali predicati da un Padre Carmelitano, che ha fatto del suo meglio per portare alla luce ed evidenziare gli elementi essenziali del Carisma Cottolengino come elencati nella nostra Regola di Vita e citati qui di seguito, collegandoli al tema principale “Chiamati e Inviati”:

  1. Fiducia nella Divina Provvidenza
  2. L’amore di Cristo ci spinge
  3. Distacco da tutta la creazione
  4. Profonda comunione con Dio
  5. Stupore di gratitudine (Deo gratias)
  6. Contemplazione del Mistero della Croce
  7. Certezza nella beata speranza del Paradiso
Con questo arricchimento, Padre Remigious si è soffermato a ricordarci le nostre radici e la ragione del nostro essere figlie di san Giuseppe B. Cottolengo, noto come il Santo della Carità. Il ritiro ha posto una solida base per le attività dell’Assemblea, quindi tutte abbiamo lavorato con zelo ed entusiasmo verso il suo culmine. Ringraziamo il Padre Provvidente che ha pianificato in anticipo di uscire dalle Mura, come ci indica il tema del Capitolo. Così, a parte la precedente settimana di preghiera, le candidate elette ai lavori d’Assemblea erano suore di diversa nazionalità: dall’Italia, dalla Tanzania, dal Congo e dal Kenya. Questo è stato molto arricchente perché ognuna ha portato esperienze diverse che hanno aggiunto un grande valore alla nostra Assemblea di studio.

La gioia che si è irradiata sui nostri volti nell’incontrarci dopo un anno o più, a causa della pandemia di Corona-virus, ha dimostrato quanto ci mancavamo e desideravamo ardentemente un momento di stare insieme. Alcune, con lacrime di gioia, esclamavano a gran voce “oh Signore, che meraviglia incontrarsi di nuovo e condividere le opere meravigliose che il Signore ha compiuto nella nostra vita anche proteggendoci dalla pandemia!”.

Le lodi a Dio, con espressioni di vero cuore, hanno sentito il Deo gratias riempire l’aria e tutti si sono sentiti a casa le une con le altre mostrando una disponibilità trasparente a pregare e lavorare insieme per il bene della nostra Congregazione e della Chiesa in generale. Ringraziamo il nostro Padre Provvidente anche per la moderna tecnologia e i semplici strumenti a nostra disposizione che ci hanno permesso di essere in contatto con le nostre suore in Tanzania che non hanno potuto raggiungerci fisicamente perché rimaste a casa per tenere compagnia alla nostra eroina missionaria (Sr. Giovanna Bortolin). Ci siamo quindi collegati sulla piattaforma Zoom che ci ha permesso di vederci e di lavorare, fianco a fianco, fino all’ultimo momento dell’Assemblea.

La Commissione della Delegazione ha diviso le partecipanti all’Assemblea di studio in quattro gruppi che avrebbero affrontato il tema, il sottotema e gli obiettivi del Capitolo. Ogni membro ha partecipato con passione al lavoro di gruppo e coloro che sono stati scelti per essere capigruppo hanno lavorato a stretto contatto con le segretarie del gruppo che hanno accelerato le presentazioni. Ciò ha facilitato le discussioni, la condivisione delle idee arricchenti e successivamente la composizione delle proposte dell’Assemblea.

Mentre ogni membro lavorava instancabilmente per valutare le proposte dell’Assemblea, tutti hanno espresso gratitudine a Dio per i 50 anni di presenza delle Suore del Cottolengo in Africa. Inoltre, l’Assemblea ha rilevato il desiderio comune e come proposta di elevazione la Delegazione Africa a Provincia: ciò rafforzerebbe la nostra prontezza nel testimoniare la nostra crescita nel Carisma e nella Spiritualità del Cottolengo.

Inoltre, l’Assemblea ha riconosciuto il sacrificio delle nostre Sorelle che ci hanno precedute, che hanno offerto la propria vita al Signore, a partire dalla Serva di Dio Sr. Maria Carola e dalle nostre sorelle contemporanee che ci hanno aperto la strada e buttato il seme. Abbiamo infatti ricordato la testimonianza di Sr. Oliva, Sr. Consolata, Sr. Antonietta, Sr. Maria Mura e infine Sr. Eugenia. Abbiamo inoltre apprezzato tutti i nostri servizi di carità perché ci siamo rese conto che questi sono la possibilità concreta per noi di essere sempre madri e sorelle, aiutandoci a sviluppare il nostro genio femminile e ci permettono di essere fuori le mura per una nuova via di evangelizzazione.

In conclusione, poiché lo Spirito Santo aveva preparato i nostri cuori in anticipo, grazie anche alle meditazioni offerteci da Madre Elda, non solo abbiamo lavorato sul sottotema della vita incamminata, ma abbiamo applicato il genio femminile in tutte le nostre attività concentrandoci sull’Amore di Cristo che ci trasforma mentre lavoriamo in collaborazione per rompere le mura dentro e fuori. Inoltre, il sottotema “generare nuove forme di vita consacrata cottolenghina nel Cristo Risorto per essere madri e sorelle dei poveri nella Chiesa di oggi” è stato così arricchente perché ci ha ricordato, ancora una volta, che la nostra vita è un cammino volto a raggiungere le gioie del Paradiso.

Pertanto, il tema e il sottotema sono tutti intrecciati e si concentrano sul rinnovare il nostro amore e gratitudine al nostro Padre Provvidente e sul rafforzamento del nostro vigore al servizio del Signore nella Piccola Casa della Divina Provvidenza e nella Chiesa in generale. Inoltre, hanno aperto la strada a delle proposte nell’Assemblea su cui lavorare come comunità e come Capitolo. Deo gratias!

Joyful moments experienced during the Delegation Study Assembly

The Chapter assembly that started from 16th to 21st May was a wonderful experience that was preceded by a most enriching week of Spiritual exercise. The Retreat facilitator, a Carmelite Father, tried his best to unearth and highlight the Cottolengo Pillars as enlisted in our Rule of Life and quoted here below under the major theme Called and Sent;

  1. Trust in divine providence
  2. The love of Christ compels us
  3. Detachment from the whole of creation
  4. Deep communion with God
  5. Amazement of Gratitude ( Deo gratias)
  6. Contemplation of the Mystery of the Cross
  7. Certainty in then Blessed hope of Paradise
With this enrichment, Fr. Remigious focused on reminding us of our root and the rationale of our being daughters of St. Joseph Benedict Cottolengo, who is renown as the Saint of Charity. The retreat laid a strong foundation for the Assembly activities thus we all worked with zeal and enthusiasm towards its apex.

We thank our Provident Father planning beforehand that we should go out of the Walls as the Chapter topic points out. Thus, apart from a prior week of prayer, those elected for the Assembly work comprised sisters from different nationalities; sisters from Italy, Tanzania, Congo and Kenya. This was so enriching because each brought different experiences which added great value to our study Assembly.

The joy that radiated on our faces on meeting each other, some after a year or more than a year of not meeting due to the Corona-virus pandemic, demonstrated how much we missed each other and were yearning for a moment of togetherness. Some with tears of joy exclaimed loudly “oh Lord, how wonderful it is to meet again and share the marvelous works the Lord has done in our lives even by protecting us from the pandemic!” The praises to God in the form of heart felt Deo gratias filled the air and everyone felt at home with each other showing a transparent readiness to pray and work together for the good of our Congregation and the Church at large. We thank our Provident Father even for the budding technology and the simple gargets that are at our disposal which enabled us to be in touch with our Sisters in Tanzania who could not join us physically as they remained home to keep our heroine missionary (Sr. Giovanna Botollin) company. Hence, we got connected on Zoom platform which enabled us to see each other and to work hand in hand until the last moment of the Assembly.

The Delegation Commission divided the study Assembly into four groups that would tackle the theme, the subtheme and the objectives of the Chapter. Each member participated passionately to the group work and those chosen to be group leaders worked hand in hand with the group secretaries which accelerated the presentations. This facilitated the discussions, the sharing of the enriching ideas and later the composition of the Assembly proposals.

As each member worked tirelessly to evaluate the Assembly proposals, all expressed gratitude to our Provident Father for the 50 years of the presence of the Cottolengo Sisters in Africa. Moreover, the Assembly found out that as a sign of appreciation a proposal for Delegation Africa to be raised to the level of a Province would enhance our promptness in witnessing to our growth in Cottolengo Charism and Spirituality. Furthermore, the Assembly recognized the sacrifices of life that our precursors have offered to the Lord, starting with the Servant of God Sr. Maria Carola and our contemporary Sisters which has paved the way for us and spread the seed. We recalled our Sister as Sr. Oliva, Sr. Consolata, Sr. Antonietta VC, Sr. Maria Mura VC, and the lastly Sr. Eugenia and considered their witness. We also appreciated all our charitable services because we realized that they are a concrete way to be always mothers and sisters developing our famine genius and enabling us to be outside the walls for new way of evangelization.

In conclusion, since the Holy Spirit had prepared our hearts beforehand thank also to the meditations of Mather Elda, we not only worked on the subtheme of ‘ life in motion but applied the feminine genius in all our activities focusing on the Love of Christ that transforms us as we work in collaboration in order to break the walls within and without. Additionally, the subtheme ‘generating new ways of Cottolengo consecrated life with the Risen Christ in order to be mothers and sisters of the poor in the Church of today was so enriching still pointing out that our life is a journey geared at attaining the joys of Paradise. Therefore, the theme and the subtheme are all intertwined and they focus on renewing our love and gratitude to our Provident Father and enhancing our vigor in the service of the Lord in the Little House of Divine Providence and in the Church at large. Additionally, they paved a way for the Assembly proposals of which we need to work at as a Community and as Chapter. Deo gratias!
